All You Need To Know About Hockey Stanley Cup
Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby, made the Stanley Cup donation in 1892, making it the oldest trophy for which professional athletes in North America compete. To give to “the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada,” he paid 10 Guineas ($50 at the time) for the trophy. The Montreal Amateur Athletic Association received the Stanley Cup for the first time ever in 1893. The Stanley Cup has served as a benchmark for success in professional hockey since the National Hockey Association took control of it in 1910. Only NHL teams have competed for this coveted trophy since its introduction in 1926.
Ice Hockey Stanley Cup – Facts
Every year, the summer of celebration starts with the presentation of the trophy to the winning team. Each member of the organization’s players and staff spends 24 hours with the Cup, a custom that is unparalleled in any sport. The Stanley Cup has been around the world for many years, stopping in countries like Russia, Japan, and Switzerland as well as on mountain tops in the Rockies and inside igloos in Canada’s newest territory, Nunavut. The legacy and glory of the Stanley Cup continue to live in the dreams of hockey players and spectators alike, overshadowing all other championship trophies in sports.
Stanley Cup Of Ice Hockey – Playoffs
The playoffs consist of four rounds. It’s a best-of-seven series for each round. Accordingly, up to seven games may be played before a team wins four straight. Which team from each conference advances to the final round is determined by the first three rounds. The Stanley Cup Finals are the penultimate round. The NHL and Stanley Cup are awarded to the team that wins that series of games. The Conference Quarterfinals are the name of the first round of the playoffs. Each conference has four contests. The first round winners move on to the second round. The Conference Finals are in the third round. Each conference’s final two teams—the Eastern Conference and Western Conference—play one another. The conference winners proceed to the championship game.
