- 1 cotton thread reel in the same colour as the silk reel
- Toothbrush

Cut a handful of silk strands from the spool to around 25-30 inches in length. Hold all of the silk threads together so that their two ends meet. Fold the bunch in half along its full length. Tie a knot at the one-fourth length of the folded thread with the cotton thread. Divide the longer section of the silk thread into two equal sections. To make a decent margin, braid all divided pieces separately and bind the ends with thin cotton threads. The longer portion will now be used to form the Rakhi string, which will be used to tie the thread. The Rakhi’s folded section has not yet been touched. Using scissors, clip the loops in the centre of the folded section. You are now going to make the Rakhi’s centre. Brush its centre with a toothbrush to generate a fluff of silk threads.
