Udder wash: Before attaching the unit it is advisable to clean the teat properly. Disposable towels are to be used for each cow. To avoid mastitis the same towels should not be used.

Forestripping: To help stimulate the milk let down process the first three to four squirts should be let down. The damage of the cow teats can be reduced as the cows are milked constantly and are done on time. It will also help in identifying mastitis at the early stage.

Gloves: The gloves are worn in order to avoid the spreading of mastitis to the farmers during the milking process. When gloves are worn it is easier to disinfect than when bare-handed.

Milking order: The cow which is infected should be taken separately and is to be milked alone rather than having it with the rest of the cows.

Overmilking: Not every drop of milk needs to be pumped out. The cows with low flow and damaged teats can be left alone. Overmilking can cause the teat sphincter to evert and scar tissue is developed which can cause many problems. There is a higher chance of mastitis if there is a scar or any kind of damage in the teats.

Post milking: More attention should be given to the cows with mastitis when the post milking teat dipping process is done. When the cow which is not infected gets milked after the infected cow then it will result in deposit of bacteria in the milk film. Which can get multiplied and get transferred to the teat ends. So the post milking teat when it is applied to the two thirds of the herd can reduce the spread of bacteria.
